Swansea Jack
Have you heard of lifeguard dogs? Our best friends are also experts at rescuing us from the sea when we’re in trouble.
Swansea Jack was a black retriever born in 1930 in Wales, known for his ocean rescues. When he heard cries for help from the sea, he would dive in and bring the person to the dock.
His first rescue was in June 1931, saving a 12-year-old boy. Days later, he rescued a swimmer at the docks. Swansea Jack saved 27 people and 2 dogs in his lifetime.
The best lifeguard dogs are large breeds like Labradors, Newfoundlands, and German Shepherds. If you want to train your four-legged friend to be a lifeguard dog, find a place where they can get proper training.
