Emotional support dogs
Emotional support dogs are trained to provide companionship and comfort to people with emotional or psychological disorders. While they might not be as well-known as guide dogs, some emotional support dogs have become famous for their ability to improve people’s lives. Here are a few notable ones:
Gavel: A German Shepherd adopted by the Queensland Police in Australia, but he was too friendly for police work! Instead, he found a new job as an emotional support dog for the Governor of Queensland.
Poppy: An emotional support dog who was the first to travel in the passenger cabin of a JetBlue plane, sitting next to her owner on a flight from New York to California.
JJ: A Pomeranian who became an emotional support dog after his owner, a girl with an intellectual disability, was bullied at school.
